​Permanent Secretary (Youth)


Yang Mulia Awang Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin

Awang Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin was appointed as Permanent Secretary (Youth) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports on 18 of ​July 2022.


​Awang Haji Zakaria began serving in the Public Service of Brunei Darussalam in 1991 and has held several positions including Advisor to the Executive Director of the SEA Group Office, World Bank, Washington D.C., Director of Finance and Procurement at the Ministry of Defense, Director of Budget at the Ministry of Finance, Acting Accountant General at the Treasury Department, Ministry of Finance, Deputy Managing Director of the Brunei Darussalam Monetary Authority, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Performance and Compliance) at the Ministry of Finance and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health.


​Awang Haji Zakaria has also been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer at Brunei Neuroscience, Stroke and Rehabilitation Center (BNSRC) and a member of the Board of Directors of Syarikat Takaful Brunei Darussalam Sendirian Berhad and its subsidiaries namely Takaful Brunei Am Sendirian Berhad and Takaful Brunei Keluarga Sendirian Berhad.


Awang Haji Zakaria's duties at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports are responsible for coordinating and managing youth affairs in addition to the financial and governance affairs of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.


​In 1991, Awang Haji Zakaria obtained a Bachelor's Degree (Hons) from Huddersfield Polytechnic, United Kingdom majoring in Accounting Studies. Among Awang Haji Zakaria's hobbies and interests in his spare time are reading, hiking and jogging.
